On June 20th, 2013, Dr. Lionel Laroche spoke to Nanaimo businesses and the community on Recruiting and Developing Culturally Diverse Employees and Tammie Wylie spoke on Aboriginal Recruitment and Retention.
Over the past 14 years, Dr. Laroche has provided job search and career management services to over 25,000 people on four continents. Lionel is an internationally renowned expert on cultural diversity and has written two books, “Managing Cultural Diversity in Technical Professions” and “Recruiting, Retaining and Promoting Culturally Different Employees”, which have both sold over 5,000 copies. His presentations are a must for managers, small business owners, HR professionals and senior staff who have responsibilities hiring, training and managing employees. Learn to separate cultural behaviour from performance and personality issues, adapt hiring practices to screen-in new Canadians, and integrate employees from diverse cultures into the workforce, including recruitment strategies to attract and retain talent from a wide variety of candidate pools; especially new Canadians and Aboriginal people. While his target audience is Canadian employers, his teachings are applicable to all.
Aboriginal Recruitment and Retention
Tammie Wylie is of Coast Salish and Danish ancestry and is currently on the management team for Tillicum Lelum Aboriginal Friendship Centre, a large Urban Aboriginal organization that provides healthcare, Social Services, education, and employment training for both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people. Bridging the two cultures within her work and life has enhanced Tammie’s opportunities for learning and developing in both Western Society and Aboriginal traditions. Tammie has a Masters degree in Leadership and Training and has 25 years’ experience in Aboriginal communities in the areas of education, training, organizational and community development.
