A BC Skills Connect Program for Immigrants

Have you been internationally educated and/or trained? Would you like to return to work in your area of expertise? If so we can help.

BC Skills Connect is a program developed by the Ministry of Economic Development, Business Immigration Division, Province of British Columbia. It is a three year pilot initiative designed to:

  • effectively assess the skills, qualifications and experience of recent immigrants to BC;
  • enhance skills, qualifications and experiences to meet BC labour market standards;
  • offer workplace practice opportunities that will help secure and sustain employment; and
  • help realize the full economic benefits of immigration to BC

It offers services to three streams of immigrants: skilled tradespeople, immigrants with high skills and internationally trained professionals.

An IMMpower BC coach will work directly with skilled immigrants to create a specialized plan to assist them in returning to work in their area of expertise. Customized services may include:  career planning, qualifications assessment, credential recognition and connecting clients with training, apprenticeships, mentorship, employer networking and work placement opportunities.

Applicants must have:

  • Arrived in Canada within the last 5 years
  • At least 3 years of experience within their occupation or profession; and
  • Intermediate to advanced level of English language proficiency
