INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE sees people in all parts of the world, come together to create practical acts of peace on a shared date – September 21st.  Last year in Nanaimo, more than 70 people braved the heavy rain to be seen and show their support for peace by participating in a Peace Day Parade ‐ Youtube video of Peace Day Parade 2011

The Immigrant Welcome Centre along with other local agencies invites everyone in our community to join the 2nd ANNUAL PEACE DAY PARADE! The foot parade, winding along the sidewalks from Old City Quarter down to the Nanaimo Waterfront, will be a lively event to celebrate peace. Everyone is welcome and participants are encouraged to bring signs, placards and flags, to wear multicultural dress, play musical instruments & sing, dress up or paint faces, and to bring flowers to share and cast to the sea. Positive atmosphere, no negative messages and no politics please.

If you would like to join the world in a celebration of peace here in Nanaimo, join the Peace Day Parade on Friday, September 21st. Assembly at 3:30 pm outside the Immigrant Welcome Centre at 319 Selby Street. The Parade begins at 4:00 pm. Parade route will travel along Selby to Fitzwilliam, down Fitzwilliam, right on Commercial St, and right again on Terminal Ave.  From there the route will follow Terminal all the way in to Maffeo Sutton Park.
