Community Connections Mentoring Program

Need Help Settling in Nanaimo?

Get matched with a local mentor.

Settling in a new place can feel overwhelming, but we are here to support you. Our Community Connection Mentoring Program matches newcomers with local volunteers who offer friendly, informal support. Whether you want to improve your English, explore Nanaimo, or understand Canadian life better, our mentorship program offers a one-on-one connection with a dedicated volunteer.

We pair newcomers with volunteer mentors who meet with you regularly (in-person or online) over an 8-12 week period. Meetings are flexible, casual, and based on your availability and interests.

The mentor can help you:

  • Practice conversational English
  • Discover public services and community resources
  • Learn to use transit
  • Discover local community resources, libraries, and recreational programs
  • Explore local culture and life in Nanaimo
  • Understand Canadian customs, values, and lifestyle
