The SWIS Forum
The SWIS Forum 2026, hosted by AMSSA, was a fantastic event bringing together Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS) providers and school districts from across the BC–Yukon region.
Staff had the opportunity to present our collaborative model with SD68 and share the positive impact this partnership has had on newcomer families. It was inspiring to see how interested and impressed other SPOs were with the work being done.
Moments like this are a great reminder of the strong community relationships at CVIMS, built through collaboration and strong leadership—something we are truly grateful for.
BC Alliance Case Management Conference and the BC/Y Regional RAP Learning Event
CVIMS staff attended the BC Alliance Case Management Conference and the BC/Y Regional RAP Learning Event where we exchanged ideas and best practices with colleagues from across the region.
During the sessions, our team contributed to important conversations on how to better support Government-Assisted Refugees (GARs) as they search for their first home in Canada — a critical step in building stability and a sense of belonging.
We were proud to take part in the BC/Y Regional RAP Program panel, where our own Louis James shared best practices for supporting Government-Assisted Refugees (GARs) in finding their first home in Canada.
The session highlighted real-world learning and collaboration — a powerful example of CVIMS in Action and our ongoing commitment to improving housing outcomes for newcomers.
Events like these strengthen collaboration, inspire new approaches, and help ensure newcomers receive the support they need to thrive in their new communities.
National Case Management Coordination Meeting

We felt the momentum as we wrapped up at the National Case Management Coordination meeting in Calgary, AB. The sessions were full of insight, collaboration, and a shared commitment to strengthening case management across Canada.
We were especially proud to see Carey Karlsson presenting alongside our partners from MOSAIC and DIVERSEcity Community Resources Society in their session, Regional Insights: Case Management Models for BC.
Go Carey… truly inspiring work.
The SWIS Conference
Grateful for the opportunity to have shared experiences, challenges, and practical strategies with several of our BC partners at the SWIS Conference in Halifax.
Our own Afra led a group session on delivering services in rural areas. Collaborations like this help strengthen services and improve outcomes across the province.
