Today, at CVIMS, we celebrate our very own, Yanfei (Amy) Xing, for her contribution to the HIPPY program in Nanaimo.

The Mothers Matter Center celebrates the contributions of three mothers annually.  In addition to the two awards given to an influential mother outside of the HIPPY program and an Indigenous HIPPY mother, a third award is given to a multicultural HIPPY mother.  This year Nanaimo’s HIPPY Home Visitor, Amy, was the Runner-Up for the Multicultural HIPPY mother of the year.

Amy was celebrated for her contributions to her cultural community, the broader community, the HIPPY program, and achievements in her personal life.  Since immigrating to Canada five years ago, Amy attained a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership while raising a family.  Shortly afterwards, she became a Home Visitor.   At the same time, she enrolled in a two-year Immigration Consultant program.

Amy is a dedicated and committed Home Visitor.  She oversees the Adopt a Reader Program, Bracken Assessments and volunteers for all HIPPY events held in the Nanaimo area.  Amy also played an important role in establishing the HIPPY program in China. Her teaching skills are exceptional, and she is a valuable team member of the Nanaimo HIPPY program and the host agency. In 2020, Amy enrolled her 3-year-old son in the HIPPY program and started a business as an Immigration Consultant.

Amy values and believes that education and personal growth are essential for her and others.  She perseveres to make this a reality in her life and the lives of others. Amy says:

When I say I am different from before, I think it is more about the change of my mindset. I am more courageous and more confident than before.

Amy says she’s not afraid of challenges anymore and is willing to learn new things. She respects people from different cultural backgrounds.

If you’re interested in becoming a Home Visitor at the HIPPY program like Amy, we’re hiring! Check out the job description on our careers page.
