We are pleased to announce that three of our team members have been recognized for their support in the labour market integration of newcomers.

Research studies showed that organizations with diversity in their team are more productive, innovative, and 33% more productive than less diverse organizations. One of the Canadian businesses’ competitive advantages is diversity, and immigrants are a vital component of these businesses. Immigrants come with new and unique perspectives and experiences, which boosts businesses’ performance (iecbc.ca, 2020)

One of Canada’s essential economic strength measures is the labour force, the number of people who work and pay taxes to fund our public services, such as health care.

Consequently, immigration helps Canada’s labour force to grow every year. Moreover, employers can find enough qualified workers to fill available jobs. Immigrants fill gaps in our labour force, pay taxes and spend money on goods, housing, and transportation (canada.ca, 2021).

Canada.ca indicated the top 5 occupations of skilled immigrants:

  • software engineers and designers
  • information systems analysts
  • computer programmers
  • financial auditors and accountants
  • advertising, marketing and public relations professionals

Nevertheless, immigrants continue to face obstacles in accessing employment that matches their education, skills and pre-arrival occupations. Several programs support skilled immigrants, funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada and the Government of British Columbia. One of these programs is the Career Paths for Skilled Immigrants program. Additionally, WorkBC and ASCEND help newcomers and international students integrate into the Canadian labour market and Canadian work culture.

As part of these programs, our team supports the labour market integration of hundreds of newcomers. This month, IECBC has recognized three of our team members; Angelika Valchar, Wendy Phillips, and Carey Karlsson. We want to thank IECBC for this recognition and partnership.
